If Lovin' the USA is wrong...

...do you wanna be Right?

In a recent LA Times piece, Joel Stein opines that Conservatives simply love their country more than Progressives do, and that that's not a good thing. At least, that's how I read it- but I leave your personal interpretation of his essay to yourself. He does offer several interesting comparisions between Republican patriotism and blind loves such as that for one's child, or the way Texans love Texas, or even a boy's love for camping. Now, if none of those examples seemed like a stretch to you, ...you might be a Republican.

He also mentions another curious difference between Lefties and Rightists; if Obama had lost the '08 election, plenty of Democrats would have sworn to move to Canada. A few may have even walked the talk and headed North. The Conservatives don't play that game- nobody (save a few surprising examples) has threatened to abandon our Obama-led USA.

But those "few surprising examples", they break the mold. I have a friend so worried by Obama's imminent confiscation of firearms, yanking of civil liberties, his demolishing of our armed forces and his massive experiments in Socialism, that she has actually threatened to move to Canada. That's right, Canada:

- land of the Canadian Firearms Act,

- home of the nationalized Canadian Health Care System,

- country of the $18 billion military budget for its 60 thousand soldiers (for perspective, that's only about half the number the USA deploys to a single foreign country (Iraq))

I'm starting to see some reasons that this option isn't a big draw for most Rightists.
