Irresponsible Mid-East Visits
McCain wins the prize

John McCain is digging his own presidential aspirations' grave. Bent on proving that his support for the US troop surge was appropriate, he now keeps insisting that our war efforts in Baghdad are paying off, and many streets are now safe for fellow Americans and Iraqis alike. To prove his theory, he toured Baghdad on April 2nd. According to him, the Baghdad street markets are "like a normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summertime." He dickered with a rug seller, and bought five rugs for five bucks.

But clearly, there are some differences; for example, strolling through a market in Indiana does not require body armor, 100 support troops, and five military attack helicopters overseeing the situation. It's just plain too expensive to shop that way! Who has fifty helicopters and a thousand troops to support a shopping party of ten these days? Of course, with an entourage like that, it's plain to see why McCain got such a good deal on those rugs...

On a more serious note, the area was shelled with mortars a half hour after McCain's visit, and the very next day, 21 market workers were kidnapped and executed from the same market that McCain had toured.

Talk about bold Republicans calling out the terrorists! "Bring 'em on!" calls McCain. "I dare you to prove this ain't no Indianan marketplace."

Bill Maher Covers It All

Here's an impressive four minute speech on the Plame outing and the true meaning of "patriotism". Bonus: an interesting simile is offered to explain why many Rippups continually trumpet their own patriotism.

Why the Right is Disintegrating
taking your cues from misguided extremists is never a good idea..."

I had sworn off blogging until mid-year 2007, but I couldn't help myself from sniping in on a discovered hayseed Rippup blogsite, especially after reviewing some of the commentary.

You should check it out - (obligatory plug for the Rippup website)

The Astute Bloggers contains some of the most unintentionally comical diatribes of the far-Right as you'll find anywhere. Examples include:

- post after post proclaiming "indisputable facts" that global warming is a Leftist conspiracy

- commentary that our big mistake in invading Iraq is that we weren't brutal enough, and should have instead nuked whole cities

- John McCain is a Democrat, and Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama are Socailist pawns.

- Bush should fire all 93 attorneys (just to be fair) and should not have caved on appointing a major contributor of "The Swift Boaters" as our ambassador to Belgium.

- there's even a post today on "EUTHANASIA OF THE ECO-NUTSIES", but that has to be an April Fool's prank, right?

...and that's just on the front page- believe me, the entire site is chockfull of tidbit after tidbit of conservative Rippup-lican blather.

So I commented. I left some posts for the most blatantly misguided rants.

Boy, does that get them in a tizzy. Seeing statements that don't fall lock-step into the Rippup group-think must simply befuddle them. "How could anybody believe that CO2 can be a pollutant?!?!" But instead of debating the issue, you get an pathetic attempt at cyber-bullying:

Actual comment on The Astute Bloggers:
"you are a fucking anti-American anti-US military moron and a troll - david cyrus dunkle of melbourne florida. (listed in the phone book. with your address.)"

Apparently, this blogger (reliapundit) is so caught up with his personal paranoia and online secrecy, that he believes "outing" my name and hometown will somehow make me (or others) see his points, or quit arguing with him. When that doesn't happen, he just keeps pouring it on; if I comment:

"You are confusing Patriotism with Sadism. Salivating at the thought of wiping out whole foreign cities with nuclear weapons is not patriotism, it is psychotic insanity"

His response is, of course:

"davis cyrus dunkle of melbourne florida: you are calling the US military sadists. if i were you i'd be afraid some HEROIC iraq war vet might take offense to that and find you and punch you in the nose. fdr and truman were psychotic according to your idiotic reasoning - for they used or would have used nukes on cities.

i think truman was 1000000% correct to use the first one - AND THE FACT THAT HE HAD TO USE A SECOND ONE TO GET THE NIPS TO SURRENDER PROVES THAT I AM CORRECT. if we could have avoided the iraq war by using a nuke on tora bora than i would say it was a good trade.
david cyrus of melbourne - alum of carnegie mellon: you are an anti-US anti-military ass. DAVID CYRUS DUNKLE: WW4 - the war against global jihadism is why this HERO VOLUNTEERED. he gave his life to defend ypour liberty to be a total fucking asshole who takes liberty for granted. he KNEW what he was fighting against. you do not.

fuck off you jerk. moron."

It must have been something I said to spin him up like that, huh? Nope- he's naturally that way. My initial comment only pointed out that a U.S. soldier killed by Al Qaida in Iraq might not have died if Bush hadn't invited the terrorists into Iraq. But, however true that might be, it doesn't fit into the Rippup's small-minded opinion that US military security in Iraq is not the responsibility of those who put the soldiers there. So, instead of considering that they bear an obligation to protect our troops, they spin the debate into accusations of anti-americanism, including attempts to incite others to join in their futile attempts at intimidation.

So, why am I not posting this in his Comment sections? Because after all this, after he finally realizes that he can't support his arguments in an educated debate, he can't bully me into silence, he has instead, decided to delete my posts from his site. OK; that is his right, but then he continues to jabbering on about my posts that he just deleted!

...and that, dear reader, is the problem with the Rippups today. Their heads are collectively swimming with misguided and unsupportable agendas. Most of them can't even debate their own agenda, and instead try to eliminate disagreement through fallacies, intimidation and censorship. Scooter Libby? FRAMED! Global Warming? CONSPIRACY! Gitmo? A VACATION CLUB! Minimum Wage? FREELOADERS! Iraq? AL QAIDA! Iran? NEXT!!

Where do these O'Reilly/Limbaugh Wannabe-pundits get their training for this? Look no further than Bill O'Reilly trying to put words in US Colonel Ann Wright's mouth, drowning her out with insults and accusations, and finally cutting her mic off to allow himself the last word:

Hmmm, this looks like another Fair and Balanced debate...

Rippups, Take Note!
