Ways Bush Critics Hurt Themselves: Chapter One
"He said, "PROPAGANDA!"

All manner of Progressive and Left-wing blogs and commentary are hot on the accusation that President Bush admitted to using propaganda, specifically on the topic of Social Security.

Let this blog be one to categorically deny that accusation.

This whole nonsense comes from a speech he gave at the Greece Athena Middle and High School in Greece, New York. The transcript of his speech is archived here: President Participates in Social Security Conversation in New York

If you check the transcript you will find that he did, in fact, use the phrase, "...catapult the propaganda". However, it's clear that he didn't mean to say, "I am catapulting propaganda!" He was stating that he often repeats his statements to "catapult the propaganda" (supposedly, of the opponents of his social security plan).

Agreed, catapulting propaganda is an odd metaphor, and I'd bet Bush really wanted to use the words "reject the propaganda," which he probably remembered as "eject the propaganda," and finally verbalized as "catapult the propaganda."

But the more time we spend pretending that the President admitted to using propaganda on the public, the less time we spend uncovering the actual propagation of disinformation he has laid upon the US.

Let's face it, an administration that won't even admit to any mistake made in its first term isn't likely to admit to using propaganda.

This doesn't mean that mistakes and propaganda never occurred. Let's just not hang our reputations on false admissions- Bush and his team are champions at denying small bits of a whole swath of accusations, and then acting like all the accusations have been disproven.

They've used Dan Rather's false memo to whitewash Bush's entire (missing) military obligations, and an unsubstantiated story about a flushed Koran to justify any and all detainee interrogation practices.

So, as true propaganda is unearthed and attributed to him and his administration, Bush will simply say, "Check the transcript- I never said I use propaganda. Next question!"

Note to Progressives: Drop the Propaganda semantics. There are bigger fish to fry.

Ann Coulter Finally Finds Herself A Bogeyman Responsible For Middle Eastern Violence
Surprise- It's the free press!

The unhinged lunatic anorexic dye-job icon of the Rippups (AKA: Republican harpy Ann Coulter) rants away at Newsweek for apparently boiling up the anti-Americanism in Muslim countries.

Her recent minute of babbling, titled, 'NEWSWEEK DISSEMBLED, MUSLIMS DISMEMBERED!' is a prime exhibit in the case against letting unintelligent extremists pen essays. Her key argument is thus: Newsweek should have buried the stories about Guantanamo interrogators flushing Korans down the toilet, because in the 1990's (get this) Newsweek didn't rush to publish stories about Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinski.

You can almost trace Ann's hysterical domino theory of American hatred of all the way back to Hillary, who just couldn't keep Bill under control, therefore forcing Newsweek to get in the habit of burying "scoops of the decade" (as Ann calls them), which led to the habit of publishing false stories, that, even if true, should have been buried, "...to protect the national interest."

I won't detail the unforgivably lengthy list of atrocities from our War on Terror that truly bears the real responsibility for enraging the Muslim world. That is already nicely covered in Slate's article entitled, "Abuse Week". Simply put, with beatings, murder, mental abuse, and dog attacks under our belt, why would anybody try to suggest that Koran-flushing is the critical evil deed?

For that matter, who really believes that it didn't happen? Our interrogators will gag prisoners with duct tape, plan to nearly suffocate them with water torture, but "Woah, now! - Don't touch that Koran book; let's show some respect, celebrate diversity!"

Right.

Along the yellow brick road of fantasy that Coulter lays, she mentions that we shouldn't believe a word that the Arab news agency al-Jazeera publishes. Forget the fact that nearly every message from Bin Laden comes through them; maybe we can just ignore the fact that he's still free. Why believe anything they broadcast? After all, Ann states that al-Jazeera, "...runs viewer comments about Jews being descended from ...apes."

Is she trying to argue that anybody who backs evolutionary theory can't be trusted? Sounds like we're back in Kansas, Dorothy Ann!

The Empire Strikes Bush

If Bush is really a political pawn of the Empire, who does that make Cheney- Jabba the Hut?

The Rush Limbaugh Perspective: Global Support of US Has Never Been Stronger!"
...and gas has never been cheaper.

I took a quick glance at Rush Limbaugh's website today, my curiosity piqued by a recent Limbaugh accusation that Evanston Township High School students know nothing of World War II, and probably never heard of Adolph Hitler. Why would Rush state such an obvious exaggeration? Because the school teaches too much on world cultures, and not enough on American history, for his tastes.

As it always happens, it takes about fifteen seconds to locate an even more preposterous claim from his website. For example, in response to a comment by Senator Barbara Boxer stating, "...we've lost the support of so much of the world because of what happened with Iraq...", Rush responds, "We did not lose the support of all the world! It's probably never been better, and the people that we did lose the support of we never had in the first place."

Support for the US has never been better? ...because of what has happened in Iraq?? Geez, Rush must think that more people than ever now support the US role in the Iraq war. But that would be opposite the facts shown in recent polls, that both Americans and foreigners are showing less and less support for the US role in Iraq, and for President Bush.

A majority of Americans do not believe it was worth it to go to war with Iraq, and disapprove of how Bush is handling Iraq.

Globally, an international poll of 23,000 people from 23 different nations provides similar data. To quote the poll director, Steven Kull, "Not only is there right now a fairly negative feeling toward the United States, ...movement in that direction is historically high".

So, no, it isn't time just yet to break out in celebration of widespread global support for our country, our Iraq war, or our President. "It's probably never been better?" Come on, Rush- take off those rose-colored glasses, and put down the prescrption medication. You're trying to party like it's 1999, when Clinton's approval rating stood at 66%. It's been nearly two years since Bush had numbers like that.

Bush Administration Orchestrates Iraq War Propaganda
...but we already knew that.

Possible UK-U.S. Conspiracy on Iraq Invasion

Indignation Grows in U.S. Over British Prewar Documents

PM Tony Blair surprised many English and Americans alike when he admitted that the justifications for the Iraq war were less than truthful. The above links illustrate what he meant.

At what point does a multinational conspiracy to violently overthrow a sovereign country become illegal? Is it when false fears among your citizens are stoked with intentionally cooked data? Is it when an imminent attack is continually presented as "only a last resort" option? Is it when faked documents and untrue accusations are denied as manipulations, and instead glossed over as "our best intelligence at the time"?

Undeniable Proof of the Left-wing Media Conspiracy
a protest song on a network TV show!

When the President Talks to God

We've turned the corner. I predict this performance by Bright Eyes on Leno does not harm his career. The days of the Dixie Chicks being banned are gone, brutha!

Support Bush or Leave the Church!
the Baptists are getting possessive again

The linked movie clip shows a Baptist church that kicked out members for supporting Kerry and the Democratic party.

I'm sure it wasn't a Christian-based ethos that drove this decision; The Baptist minister probably calculated his blood-money-based contributions from the Pharisee-Christian Rightists, weighed that against the alms-giving Progressive Samaritans in his fold, and went with the big dollars. Who knows, perhaps the Elders of his church directed him to, "Remove all sinners from this Church! Their tithings are a pittance."

Laura Bush Steals the Show at WH Correspondents Dinner

It's hard to believe that this really took place. Laura Bush roasts her own husband. Even Hillary was never this harsh throughout the whole Lewinsky episode. Who wrote these jokes?

"I'm proud of George. He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."
